Brewster is a village that lies within the town of Southeast, New York in Putnam County. Although it's only a village, Brewster, NY is the most densely populated area of the county. As of the 2010 census, Brewster, NY has a population of nearly 2,400. 

Brewster, NY received its name from two early farmers, Walter and James Brewster. The Brewsters were landowners who allowed the New York and Harlem Railroad to open a depot on their property. Brewster's Station was a popular landmark in the 19th century. Despite being recognized as a village as early as 1849, Brewster, NY was not officially incorporated as a village until 1894.
